For homeowners, there are two major concerns with the new assessments based on the government's assessment as of value, July 1, 2016.

First you may lose your homeowner grant if your property goes from under an assessment of $1,200,000 to above. I expect the government to announce a raising of the home value limit shortly.

The news today, Nov 15th 2016 will probably surround the recent interest rate increases from this morning. But I wanted to focus on affordability under the new mortgage rates, in some cases ½ percent higher than yesterday. IE) 2.64% vs. 2.24%.

 

Millennials Bear Brunt of Fed Policy Changes

Many, if not most, first-time buyers will experience a steep decline in housing affordability on October 17. New rules introduced by the Federal Government will cause the sharpest drop in the purchasing power of low equity home buyers in years. At a time when housing affordability is a critical issue, deliberately chopping millennials' purchasing power by as much as 20 per cent will only exacerbate a well-known problem.
